Aerial Fiber Lineman

The Aerial Fiber Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial fiber optic and telecommunications lines. This role involves working at heights to construct and maintain fiber infrastructure, ensuring high-quality workmanship and compliance with safety standards. The lineman collaborates with crew members and supervisors to deliver projects efficiently while maintaining network reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain aerial fiber optic cables, including strand and hardware.
  • Adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols while working at heights and around live traffic.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure worksite safety for crew members and the public.
  • Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles regularly to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
  • Operate aerial lift trucks, bucket trucks, and other equipment required for fiber installation and repair.
  • Use hand tools and power equipment to complete work efficiently and safely.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with fiber optic lines and related infrastructure.
  • Perform continuity and performance tests to verify network functionality.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, including materials used and test results.
  • Report project progress, issues, and completions to supervisors.
  • Work closely with ground crews, project managers, and supervisors to ensure project
    goals are met.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and resolve
    challenges.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in aerial fiber installation or related telecommunications work.
  • Valid driver’s license, CDL license preferred.
  • Climbing certification or ability to obtain one.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency in working with aerial fiber optic networks and related hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, maps, and specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders, bucket trucks, and climbing gear.
  • Capability to lift to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as necessary.
