Traffic Control Flagger

The traffic control flagger plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians by directing and controlling traffic flow around construction and work zones. This position involves setting up safety equipment, communicating effectively with team members, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety- conscious, and able to perform tasks in outdoor environments under various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the flow of traffic safely around construction or work zones using hand signals, signs, and communication devices.
  • Maintain visual and verbal communication with crew members to ensure smooth traffic operations.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to protect workers, motorists, and pedestrians.
  • Monitor traffic conditions and adjust as necessary to maintain safety.
  • Set up and remove traffic control equipment, including signs, cones, barricades, and other safety materials.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with crew members, site supervisors, and other flaggers to ensure efficient site operations.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to drivers and pedestrians to prevent confusion or accidents.
  • Record any incidents, near-misses, or safety concerns and report them to the supervisor.
  • Assist with general labor tasks as needed when traffic control is not required.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor or site manager.

Qualifications

  • Valid traffic control/flagger certification (e.g., ATSSA, TCS) or ability to obtain one.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members, drivers, and pedestrians.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused for long periods in high-stress environments.
  • Physical capability to stand for extended periods, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Previous experience as a flagger or in a construction-related field is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for suitable candidates.
